Romania: EU, no comment on Georgescu's exclusion, it is national competence

We want to be very clear, elections are a national competence and the Commission does not comment on the Romanian electoral process, which is a matter that concerns the Romanian authorities and, ultimately, the Romanian people". European Commission spokesman Markus Lammert says this in the daily press briefing, answering questions. Yesterday, Romania's Central Election Committee rejected the registration of the candidacy of far-right candidate Cali Georgescu. "The Commission – he reiterates, answering a second question on the matter – does not interfere in any way in national elections. The national authorities are responsible for national elections and, ultimately, the elections are for the people of each member state".
