Retail Sales in Eurozone: -0.1% in March, +1.5% Year-on-Year

Milan, May 7 (LaPresse) – In March, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade fell by 0.1% in both the euro area and the European Union, according to estimates by Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office. In February 2025, retail trade volume increased by 0.2% in the euro area and remained stable in the EU. Compared to March 2024, the calendar-adjusted retail sales index rose by 1.5% in the eurozone and 1.4% across the EU in March 2025. Among the member states for which data are available, the largest monthly declines in total retail trade volume were seen in Slovenia (-2.0%), Estonia (-1.3%), and Slovakia (-0.9%). The highest increases were recorded in Malta (+2.0%), Belgium and Croatia (both +1.4%), and Bulgaria (+1.1%). Year-on-year, the strongest growth in total retail trade volume was observed in Luxembourg (+9.4%), Bulgaria (+5.4%), and Cyprus (+5.0%). The most significant annual declines were recorded in Slovakia (-2.9%), Poland (-1.8%), and Italy (-1.4%).
