Banks, Giorgetti: "Full alignment with Chigi, otherwise I’d resign"

Rome, May 28 (LaPresse) – On the golden power issue and the Unicredit-Banco BPM case, "from day one there has been coordination between Palazzo Chigi and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, between Giorgetti and Meloni. If there were even the slightest misalignment, you wouldn't see a resignation announcement—you would see an actual resignation, because resignations are not announced, they are done. Is that clear?" said Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti upon arriving at the Senate. Regarding resignations and when asked for a comment on Consob, he added, "I’ve just explained how it’s done." On energy costs, he stated, "We all need to look in the mirror and reflect on the reckless decisions that deprived this country of the only form of energy that would have truly made it sovereign and independent—nuclear energy." Among other factors, Giorgetti also pointed to "questionable renewable energy policies," while clarifying that he is not questioning "the value of those policies themselves." He noted, "Just look at the system charges, how they were built and how much they weigh over time, to understand that perhaps something went wrong in national energy policy." "And so, in the face of decisions that may have effects, unfortunately, in 10 years, I believe the entire Parliament will follow the new direction that the government has finally decided to take," the minister concluded.
