Automotive: BYD entered Italy’s top 20 car brands in July

BYD announced it had reached a significant milestone in the Italian automotive market in July 2025, entering the country’s top 20 best-selling brands for the first time, ahead of long-established domestic competitors such as Alfa Romeo. Achieved in only six months since the beginning of the year, this result confirmed the brand’s continued growth since the end of 2024. In addition, a major wave of new products is expected to arrive in the final quarter of the year. The same positive trend has been recorded at European level, where growth has continued at a steady pace in key markets where BYD has been strengthening its network and commercial presence.

In Italy in July, BYD registered 2,268 units across passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs), reaching a market share of 1.7%. For passenger cars alone, BYD’s share was also 1.7%, with 1,967 registrations. Year-to-date, BYD recorded a total of 13,138 registrations (PC + LCV), equal to a 1.2% share, marking a triple-digit percentage increase compared to the same period in 2024. This growth was also reflected in the passenger car segment alone, with 11,531 registrations YTD and the same 1.2% share.

In the passenger car market, BYD continued to stand out for its performance in the electrified segments. In the NEV segment (PHEV + BEV) in particular, BYD ranked first in July with 1,967 units registered and a 13.4% share. Year-to-date, the brand maintained its leadership with an 11% share and 11,531 registrations. In the PHEV segment, BYD consolidated its top position with 1,408 plug-in hybrids registered in July, corresponding to a 16% share. Year-to-date, the total stood at 8,419 units and a 15.5% share. In the BEV segment, the brand again took the lead, with a 10% share in July and 559 fully electric vehicles registered during the month. From January to July, BYD reached 3,112 units and a 6.1% share.

Growth was evident across all sales channels in the passenger car market. In short-term rental, BYD ranked first with 770 units registered and a monthly share of 19%. In long-term rental, the brand reached a 1.7% share in July with 408 units registered, while year-to-date it stood at 1.4% with 3,189 vehicles. In the electric commercial vehicle segment, BYD also confirmed its leadership in BEVs, with 301 units registered in July and a monthly share of 33.5%. This strengthened the brand’s position in the year-to-date, where BYD maintained leadership with a 31.1% share and 1,607 vehicles registered since the start of the year.
