Flotilla: Ombudsman opens proceedings on 3 October general strike

Milan, 22 October (LaPresse) – The Strike Guarantee Commission, with reference to the general strike on 3 October – called by CGIL, USB, CUB, SGB, Cobas, Cib Unicobas, Cobas Sardegna, in response to the Israeli navy’s blockade of the Global Sumud Flotilla ships – announced that it had decided to open proceedings to assess the conduct of the trade unions that called the strike. It should be noted that, with the measure already adopted on 2 October, the Guarantor had previously notified the parties calling the strike the violation of the legal obligation to give notice, as provided for by Law 146/90, considering irrelevant the reference to Article 2, paragraph 7, which provides for the possibility of striking without notice only “in cases of abstention from work in defence of the constitutional order, or in protest against serious events harmful to the safety and security of workers”.
