ECB, Coldiretti: “Lagarde shameless on food prices, should focus on cost of money”

Milan, Oct. 28 (LaPresse) – “Shameless. President Christine Lagarde should focus on lowering the cost of money for families, citizens, and businesses to increase the competitiveness of the system. It is also part of her responsibility as President of the European Central Bank to contain interest rates and stop speculative intentions from some EU member states.” This was Coldiretti’s comment on today’s statements by the ECB President regarding rising food prices. “In recent years we have faced exploding costs, starting with energy and credit. Behind higher food prices, there are no wealthy farmers, especially considering that producer prices for many sectors, from rice to wheat, are in free fall. There are companies that guarantee citizens’ health and Europe’s food safety. This role must be recognized. We therefore expect President Lagarde to have a moment of conscience and truly commit to Europe’s future, which unfortunately depends heavily on her decisions that are not always understandable,” Coldiretti added.
