Brussels, 17 Nov. (LaPresse) – “As regards the budget deficit issue, we have discussed it several times with the Italian authorities. In order for the Commission to lift the excessive deficit procedure against Italy, we need to see the autumn 2025 data, verified by Eurostat. This data will be available in April and, as a result, a possible lifting of the procedure, if the deficit is confirmed to be below 3% of GDP, could be included in next spring’s European Semester package.” This was stated by European Commissioner for Economy Valdis Dombrovskis at a press conference on the autumn economic forecasts. ‘The Italian authorities have confirmed their intention to ensure that the deficit is slightly below 3% of GDP in order to exit the excessive deficit procedure,’ the commissioner added.
