Google: Berlin court orders Google to pay idealo over €465 million in damages

Milan, 17 November (LaPresse) – ‘The Berlin Regional Court has ordered Google to pay over €465 million in damages, including interest, to the price comparison platform idealo.’ This was announced in a statement by idealo itself, according to which ‘the judges confirmed idealo’s position that Google abused its dominant market position well beyond the period covered by the European Commission’s decision, systematically favouring its own price comparison service’. ‘For the first time, a large technology company has been held liable by a German civil court for the consequences of an antitrust violation of this magnitude,’ the statement said. Nevertheless, idealo ‘intends to take further legal action, arguing that the amount awarded reflects only part of the actual damage’.
