USA, Cyber Monday heading for record spending

New York, Dec. 2 (LaPresse/AP) – Experts predict that consumer spending in the US during Cyber Monday will reach record levels this year, despite the wider economic uncertainty. Adobe Analytics estimates that US shoppers will spend $14.2 billion online on Monday, up 6.3% from 2024. Spending is expected to peak between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. local time, when Adobe predicts that $16 million will pass through online shopping carts nationwide every minute. US consumers have already spent $11.8 billion online on Black Friday, $6.4 billion on Thanksgiving Day, and another $11.8 billion over the weekend, exceeding Adobe’s forecasts. Purchases made during Cyber Week, the five main shopping days between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, provide a strong indication of how much shoppers are willing to spend for the holiday season. “Cyber Week is off to a strong start,” said Vivek Pandya, chief analyst at Adobe Digital Insights. “Discounts will remain high through Cyber Monday, which we believe will continue to be the biggest day of the year for online shopping.” According to Adobe’s latest estimates, discounts on electronics and apparel are expected to peak on Monday, with reductions of 30% and 26% off average list prices. But other categories will also continue to benefit from deep discounts, including toys, for which Adobe forecasts a 27% reduction off list prices.
