Antitrust: over €3 million in fines for Sky for misleading TV prices and subscriptions

Rome, 9 December (LaPresse) – In its weekly bulletin, the Antitrust Authority announced that it had fined Sky Italia a total of €3.2 million for unfair commercial practices regarding TV subscription prices. The Authority emphasises that “the proceedings concern three unfair commercial practices carried out by Sky relating to, respectively: the misleading nature of communications regarding increases in the cost of subscriptions to Sky TV services”, for which fines of €2 million were imposed; “the application of these increases to Now TV offers, whose claim (‘until you cancel”) led customers to believe that they were excluded’, for which a fine of €800,000 was imposed; and ‘the presentation to customers of advantageous offers, for the purpose of customer retention, packaged in particular through the activation of additional TV packages or ancillary services (Sky Wi-Fi), whose promised conditions are systematically disregarded in the invoice,” a fine of €1.4 million was imposed.
