Olbia: airport to be named after Aga Khan, ceremony on the 15th

Olbia, 8 January (LaPresse) – The naming of Olbia airport after Prince Karim Aga Khan IV is now official. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday 15 January at 10.30 a.m. in the council chamber of Olbia Town Hall, in the presence of Mayor Settimo Nizzi, and will continue afterwards in the main terminal of the airport. The new name of the airport will be unveiled during the morning’s celebrations. The naming was authorised by the ENAC board of directors, which accepted the request made by the Olbia municipal administration. The recognition pays tribute to the Ismaili prince, father of the Costa Smeralda and founder of Alisarda, the Olbia-based airline founded in 1963 and later renamed Meridiana. Karim Aga Khan IV, who passed away on 4 February 2025 at the age of 88, is considered a key figure in the tourist and economic development of Gallura, helping to transform Olbia and north-eastern Sardinia into an international luxury tourism destination and strengthening its links with the rest of the world.
