Taxation, Carbone: “200,000 total tax evaders found, including 86,000 undeclared businesses”

Rome, Feb. 5 (LaPresse) – In 2025, 200,000 tax evaders were identified, including individuals and companies: some failed to file a tax return, while others were completely unknown to the tax authorities. This was highlighted by the Director of the Revenue Agency, Vincenzo Carbone, during his speech at Telefisco 2026. Carbone explained that 57% of these subjects (116,000) had not filed a tax return at all, despite being required to do so because they had income to declare. The remaining 43% (86,000 subjects) were entirely unknown to the tax authorities, in the sense that they carried out their activities completely off the books. In 2026, he explained, 2.4 million compliance letters will be sent out. Speaking at Telefisco of Il Sole 24 Ore, Carbone explained that the Agency’s risk analyses are based on selective criteria and that, starting from these, it is possible to intercept cases that show particularly significant inconsistencies. This work led last year to the discovery of over 200,000 total tax evaders, among individuals and companies.
