Foreign trade, Codacons: “From Trump’s tariffs not the feared damage to exports”

Milan, Feb. 17 (LaPresse) – “The tariffs imposed by the Trump administration have not had the feared devastating effects on Italian exports.” This was stated by Codacons, commenting on the data provided today by Istat. “Despite strong concerns about the consequences of the tariffs on the Italian economy and on producing companies in our country, the 2025 balance closes with positive data,” explains Codacons, according to which “exports in fact grow on an annual basis by +3.3% in value, reversing the negative trend of 2024 when exports recorded -0.5%, with positive figures for average unit values in all sectors except energy.” “Among the countries that contribute most to the growth of Italian exports are precisely the United States, with an increase in sales of +7.2% year-on-year, demonstrating that, at least up to this moment, the tariffs imposed by Trump have not produced negative effects on exports and on Italian companies,” concludes Codacons.
