Rome, 4 June (LaPresse) – ‘With the Chamber of Deputies’ approval of the enabling act on sustainable nuclear power, we are taking an important step towards Italy’s energy future.’ So said Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister for the Environment and Energy Security. ‘Today we have begun to lay the groundwork so that the country is ready to adopt sustainable nuclear power when the new technologies we are focusing on are mature and available at the start of the next decade,’ he added. “Sustainable nuclear power means greater energy security, greater decarbonisation and greater independence. In a world where energy demand is set to grow rapidly, partly due to artificial intelligence, data centres, and industrial and domestic electrification, those capable of producing energy will be freer, stronger and more secure. We want an Italy that is less dependent on foreign sources, with more affordable energy for households and businesses. Energy bills arrive indiscriminately in the homes and businesses of all Italians. This is why nuclear power is not a political or environmental cause: it is a tool to be assessed seriously, with confidence in research and a sense of responsibility towards future generations. This is a choice based on practicality, not ideology. A choice of freedom. Greater energy security, greater independence, a stronger Italy.”
