Rome, 18 June (LaPresse) – “At present, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) still holds 4.86% of MPS”, “as stated on more than one occasion, our commitment is to divest our stake, but this step must be taken under the best market conditions to ensure we maximise the return on the investment made over time. The MEF’s assessment is influenced by public debt criteria.” So said Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti during a hearing before the Senate Banking Committee. “As for the timing,” explained Giorgetti, “the most appropriate market window will need to be assessed to maximise proceeds, also taking into account the share price trend, it being understood that the MEF will adopt a neutral stance with regard to the ongoing consolidation process without taking a position on the announced extraordinary transactions or on any alternative transactions. Assessments of the timing will also need to take this aspect into account.”
