Rome, June 24 (LaPresse) – “I see controversy over timing, but we know perfectly well that there is no deadline on our side by which we must decide,” said Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti on SAFE, speaking on the sidelines of a conference at CNEL. The SAFE “is a very particular form of financing, which has aspects of convenience in terms of duration and interest rates.” Regarding the SAFE loan issue, “it is different, I have tried to explain it, the issue of increasing defence spending requires a budget deviation, which cannot be decided only by the government nor by the Economy Minister, but as the Constitution says it is decided by Parliament, so it will be discussed in the coming months,” Giorgetti added. Will it be in September, before the budget law? “Presumably, the final details from the European Commission on the use of flexibility clauses are being released; once we have a clear framework we will be able to decide, because if we decide on things we do not know we may also make mistakes,” he concluded.
