Rome, 27 July (LaPresse) – “There are two measures here: the first concerns excise duties, specifically the provision that must be considered alongside the interministerial decree issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Ministry of Economic Development (MASE), which provides for a discount on diesel – and diesel only – of 17 centesimi until 6 August.” So said Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti at a press conference following the Council of Ministers meeting. “A Council of Ministers meeting is already scheduled for 4 August to assess what action to take based on the situation,” he explained. “The discount for hauliers and the tax credit for farmers have also been extended until July.” “The excise duty discount will come into effect at midnight on 28 July. As we have done previously, we will monitor price trends on a daily basis, as they are fluctuating very erratically depending on the geopolitical situation.” As for possible measures regarding petrol, “we are monitoring everything and trying to consider how to intervene, obviously bearing in mind the public finance framework, because even for just a few days, the sums to be allocated are very, very significant.”
