(LaPresse) – The Ferragosto weekend is characterised by the closure of most of the country’s economic activities, but also by last-minute departures and the first returns: in anticipation of increased traffic flows, Anas has stepped up staff deployment across the country and scaled back roadworks. Until 7 September, 1,175 roadworks sites – 83 per cent of those currently active (1,414) – will be closed or suspended. “With the final departures and the first returns approaching,” said Anas’s Chief Executive, Claudio Andrea Gemme, “we are stepping up our efforts to ensure the smoothest possible flow and maximum safety of traffic along the Anas road and motorway network. According to estimates from our Road Mobility Observatory, we expect over 24 million vehicle journeys between today and Sunday 16 August. Through constant monitoring of the territory, we have stepped up emergency response services and 24-hour monitoring of traffic flows in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the police,” emphasised the CEO of Anas, “to minimise the disruption caused by the increase in traffic. “We would like to reiterate our recommendation that everyone always drives responsibly: never use a mobile phone whilst driving.”
