For years, he led together with his brothers Ferdinando and Leonardo the historic winery in the province of Florence, now run by his son Lamberto Frescobaldi, president of the Italian Wine Union. Frescobaldi was awarded the title of Cavaliere del lavoro in 1977, in recognition of his company’s production of “some of the finest and most widely distributed wines in Italy and around the world”. In a statement, the Italian Wine Union expressed its deep condolences over the death of Vittorio Frescobaldi, father of UIV president Lamberto Frescobaldi and a leading figure in the history of Italian wine. A member of a family with a connection to viticulture spanning more than 700 years, UIV writes, Vittorio Frescobaldi made a significant contribution to the establishment and growth of Tuscan winemaking, accompanying its evolution and strengthening its prestige in international markets.
