Milan, 22 September (LaPresse) – The crisis in the Gulf is taking its toll on Italian households’ finances. Over the six months of the conflict, between February and August 2026, the consumer price index for electricity, gas and other domestic fuels recorded a surge of 11.4 per cent. This increase translates into an estimated additional outlay of 1.8 billion euros, placing a burden on the household budgets of the nearly twenty-seven million households residing in Italy. This was highlighted by Confartigianato in an analysis presented during the 22nd edition of the annual ‘Energies and Sustainability Confartigianato High School’ convention, organised by the Confederation in collaboration with the energy consortia CAEM, CEnPI and Multienergia. The event, which began yesterday and will continue until 23 September, is taking place in Domus de Maria (Cagliari). The cumulative rise in retail energy prices sees gas up by 13.5 per cent and electricity by 10.1 per cent in particular, significantly exceeding the 2.8 per cent inflation rate recorded over the same period. In the regional ranking of energy price rises between February and August – as highlighted by Confartigianato – households in Lombardy have been hardest hit, with a total increase of 329 million euros, corresponding to a cumulative rise of 12.3 per cent over six months in the prices of these energy commodities within the region.
