Frankfurt (Germany), 25 Sept. (LaPresse) – Volkswagen and Audi are recalling a total of 2.86 million vehicles worldwide due to a potential steering system fault. The fault concerns a steering mounting bolt which may corrode and break, posing a risk, in the worst-case scenario, of steering failure. In Germany, a total of 954,387 vehicles are affected. For Volkswagen, the recall affects 2,159,054 vehicles worldwide, of which 895,832 are in Germany. The models affected are the Golf, Golf Variant, Tiguan, Touran and Caddy, produced between 24 September 2013 and 1 July 2024. For Audi, 696,547 vehicles are affected worldwide, of which 58,555 are in Germany. The recall concerns the Q3 model, produced between 31 October 2017 and 23 May 2024. According to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), under certain circumstances, corrosion can cause the steering mounting bolt to break. Such a break could compromise the steering system’s connection and, in the worst-case scenario, cause it to fail completely, increasing the risk of an accident. Owners of the affected vehicles must take their cars to a garage, where the mounting will be inspected and the bolt replaced with a more corrosion-resistant version. The repair is free of charge. To date, there have been no reports of property damage or injuries linked to the fault. The recalls are still under review by the KBA.
