Everyone should be given the chance to compete.” This was the view expressed to LaPresse by Sebastiano Gallitelli, general secretary of Assopetroli-Assoenergia, who is calling, as a first step, for an immediate round of talks with other operators in the supply chain and discussions with the government, “to extend the price cap to other supplies in order to prevent market distortion”. “We support the measures designed to help the wider community, but they are not enough on their own if they exclude the professional sector – the so-called ‘off-network’ sector – which supplies transport, agriculture, industry and independent retailers,” he explains, adding that “the risk associated with the price cap, if it is not extended to these supplies, is a distortion of competition, which we can only denounce”.
