Milan, 2 Oct. (LaPresse) – October begins with a general strike called for today by the Confederation of European Workers’ Unions (CSLE), with the support of Fi-si. Various sectors are affected, ranging from public transport to schools, from law enforcement to metalworkers and farmers. The nationwide industrial action will affect the rail sector from 11.00 to 14.00 and may lead to cancellations, delays and changes to services. The stoppage has been called as part of a nationwide multi-sector strike. Workers are downing tools to demand a pay rise, concrete steps towards energy independence and a policy that ‘encourages the growth of Italian companies’. As regards transport, in the case of Trenitalia, the strike may affect the company’s regional, Intercity and high-speed services during the three-hour strike. In the event of a strike, Trenitalia will provide minimum services and publish lists of guaranteed national trains. On strike days, Trenitalia guarantees minimum transport services, as set out below, deemed appropriate by the Guarantee Commission for the implementation of Law 146/1990. Trains already in service when the strike begins will still reach their final destination if it can be reached within one hour of the start of the industrial action; after this period, trains may stop at stations prior to their final destination. The industrial action involving Trenord may affect rail services in Lombardy, whilst services meeting the specified conditions will be guaranteed. The strike may affect rail services in Lombardy. As regards Italo train services, these are not affected by the strike. In the education sector, should school staff take part in the strike, lessons may be at risk for the whole day. Individual schools will assess the extent of participation, in accordance with the law, and will then inform pupils’ families of any changes to the timetable.
