Rome, Oct. 3 (LaPresse) – “Together with Nicusor Dan, we have brought together 17 Friends of Cohesion, EU Member States, around a common goal: preserving Agriculture and Cohesion as central priorities in the next European budget, while ensuring adequate resources to address Europe’s new challenges. We strongly believe that this can be achieved – and we have addressed a joint letter to Micheal Martin, in his capacity as President of the Council of the EU for 2026, ahead of the next steps in the negotiations on the MFF.” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote this on social media, posting the letter sent to the Irish prime minister. “We fully recognize that the European Union is facing a changing strategic context, which brings new challenges but also new opportunities for common European action. The next MFF must enable Europe to seize these opportunities while responding to growing challenges, including security and defense, competitiveness, connectivity, energy security and resilience. At the same time, this must not come at the expense of policies based on the Treaties, which remain the backbone of European integration and themselves contribute to addressing these new challenges. Therefore, the total amount set out in the Negotiating Framework of the Cypriot Presidency remains the relevant basis for effectively meeting all these financial needs. This is not the time for Europe to lower its ambitions,” the letter reads.
