Brussels, 6 Nov. (LaPresse) – Spain’s Pablo Hernández de Cos and the Netherlands’ Klaas Knot are the two candidates to succeed Lagarde at the European Central Bank. This was announced by Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis. “On 29 October,” he said, “ECB President Christine Lagarde informed the President of the European Council that she would be stepping down from her post by 7 February 2027. I have therefore initiated the procedure for appointing a successor to the ECB presidency and have asked Member States to submit nominations by today, 6 November. By the deadline, I had received two nominations: Pablo Hernández de Cos (Spain) and Klaas Knot (Netherlands).” Pierrakakis reports that “at its next meeting, on 9 November, the Eurogroup will review these nominations.”
