Venice, 3 September (LaPresse) – ‘Even when depicting cruelty, violence and horror, art brings peace and relief. It is cathartic and leads human beings to look at themselves and have more empathy. Today we need more empathy for others; without it, we cannot hope for the war to end.’ These were the words of Valeria Bruni Tedeschi during the press conference presenting the film “Duse”, in competition at the Venice Film Festival, about the early 20th-century diva Eleonora Duse, regarding the role of art at this moment in history. ‘I think art can be a great tool for peace,’ added the actress.
