Sanremo: Nayt, we mustn’t chase the market, I’m an anti-star

Sanremo (Imperia), 26 February (LaPresse) – ‘Seeing the song included in the Top 5 is very satisfying. It shows those who believe in music that we don’t have to follow the market logic imposed on us.’ These were the words of Nayt, competing in Sanremo with “Prima che”, at a press conference at the Ariston. ‘I believe I am offering something interesting,’ he explained, ‘which some people understand and others less so. Sanremo is also a television programme, and I like the idea of bringing music and my own offering to it.’ Nayt describes himself as an anti-star: ‘I don’t think an artist should be idolised, because the focus should be on the music, and that’s what I’m trying to do,’ he says. “Generally, outside of this context, I don’t take photos with my fans. It would feel like I was pandering to the narrative that I’m more important than others. The market tends to develop the cult of the idol.‘ On the cover of “La canzone dell’amore perduto” (The Song of Lost Love), which he will perform on Friday evening with Joan Thiele, he revealed: ’I’m performing that song because the piece I’m competing with has a strong rap influence, so I chose De Andrè to express my songwriting side and Joan Thiele as my travelling companion.”
