He became famous for playing mechanic Cooter Danveport in the popular 1980s TV series ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’. His wife Alma Viator announced his death in a Facebook post. “Today I lost the love of my life, Ben died of a heart attack. He was resting at home in his favorite armchair, waiting for the Braves to play and beat the Yankees – the woman recounted – He had an incredible and full life, he loved and was loved. I will miss him, I loved him so much”. After the success of ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’, Jones embarked on a political career, running in Georgia as a Democrat and being elected in 1988 and 1990. After breaking with the party in the late 1990s after asking then-U.S. President Bill Clinton for explanations regarding his impeachment, he returned to acting.
