Upon arrival at Madrid-Barajas Airport, Shakira was greeted by cheering fans. After the crowd, the artist briefly spoke, her first reference being to human connection in a digital age that, she said, has created an “epidemic of loneliness.” “In the solitude of this digital age, a silent epidemic for all of us, we must take refuge in the one aspect in which machines and artificial intelligence will never surpass us: the way we connect with each other,” said the singer, who this Friday opens the first of 12 concerts scheduled in the Spanish capital. The shows will be held at the Iberdrola Music venue in Villaverde, at the Shakira Stadium, which has a capacity of over 50,000 people.
