Rome, Oct. 13 (LaPresse) – The US administration’s proposal to livestream the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the former military psychiatrist responsible for the 2009 Fort Hood massacre, “is the perfect example of how deep its lack of morality and sensitivity runs, as well as its toxic masculinity, and shows how deeply rooted the infection afflicting the US government today is, exposing the depravity of the Trump administration. You have to be wasted and out of your mind to have said something like that. But the world, most of the world, does not have this infection.” American actress Susan Sarandon made the remarks during the presentation of the film ‘The Accompanist’ at Alice nella Città, an independent event held alongside the Rome Film Festival. According to Sarandon, who has also starred in the death penalty-themed film ‘Dead Man Walking’ during her career, the Hasan case “has reopened the debate on the death penalty and brought attention back to the depravity of this administration. Much of the world, after all, does not even practise capital punishment. I don’t think I’ve seen anything this shocking since the videos released by ISIS.” “We have already witnessed similar horror during slavery, when people gathered to watch Black men being hanged from trees. It is something extremely dangerous, terrible and profoundly inhumane,” she concluded.
