Migrants: Shipwreck off Lampedusa, 10 survivors and 6 bodies recovered

Turin, March 19 (LaPresse) – Six bodies have arrived in Lampedusa after coast guard and finance police patrol boats rescued and brought ashore 10 survivors from a shipwreck that occurred in multiple stages.

Off the islet of Lampione, patrol boats from the Coast Guard and the Finance Police rescued, according to AgrigentoNotizie, a deflated and nearly sunken dinghy, to which six men and four women were clinging.

The officers also recovered six bodies, all young men, near Lampione. These have already been taken to the mortuary at the Cala Pisana cemetery.

The 10 survivors reported that they had departed from Sfax, Tunisia, on Sunday night with a group of 56 people. After less than 24 hours at sea, many migrants (an unspecified number) fell into the water, possibly due to rough seas. However, the dinghy continued its journey.
