Campi Flegrei, De Luca writes to government: ‘Suspend mortgage payments’

Rome, 24 Mar. (LaPresse) – ‘This morning I sent a letter to the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and to the Minister of Civil Protection Nello Musumeci regarding the Phlegraean Fields emergency. I believe it is essential to take concrete measures to alleviate the situation in which the citizens and businesses of the area affected by bradyseism have found themselves. Families and businesses are suffering significant damage and I believe it is the duty of the national government to make decisions (for mortgages and business tax burdens) that will allow us to address the critical issues’. This was stated by the President of Campania, Vincenzo De Luca, announcing that he had written to the government precisely to make these requests. ‘The economic crisis caused by the phenomena’ of bradyseism in the Campi Flegrei area, the letter reads, ’calls for urgent fiscal measures to support the people, businesses and professionals operating in the affected area, in addition to the extraordinary structural monitoring and prevention measures already adopted, in order to prevent the situation from worsening. Therefore, the urgent adoption of immediate measures is requested, and, in particular, in the first instance: the suspension of mortgage and loan repayments for economic and production activities located in the municipalities in the area, as well as for private individuals with mortgages relating to their primary residence declared uninhabitable; the suspension of tax and contribution assessment and collection deadlines for companies with registered or operational offices in the municipalities in the area’.
