Pope Francis, Bruni: ‘Funeral procession will not cross St. Peter's Square’.

Vatican City (Vatican), 25 Apr (LaPresse) – "The procession that will carry Pope Bergoglio's coffin from the Vatican to Santa Maria Maggiore will not pass through St Peter's Square, but through the Porta del Perugino. The procession should last 30 minutes". This was announced by the spokesman of the Vatican Press Office, Matteo Bruni, in a briefing with journalists. Bruni added that the vehicle that will transport Pope Francis' coffin from the Vatican to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore will be a vehicle that will allow a view of the Pontiff's coffin. ‘The closing of Pope Francis' tomb scheduled for this evening at 8pm will be a private act and there will be no live TV broadcast,’ the Vatican Press Office spokesman then clarified. At Bergoglio's funeral, the Argentine delegation, led by President Javier Milei, will be in the front row. The delegations of Heads of State will be to the right of the altar. After Argentina there will be Italy. On Sunday afternoon at 4pm the cardinals will pass through the Holy Door of the Basilica of St. Mary Major, visit the tomb of Pope Francis and then celebrate Vespers at 5pm.
