Vatican, meeting between Pope and King Charles: focus on peace and the fight against poverty

Vatican City (Vatican), 23 October. (LaPresse) – Peace, the fight against poverty and environmental protection. These issues were at the centre of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s visit to the Vatican. After the audience with the Pope, King Charles met with the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, accompanied by Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations, at the Secretariat of State. ‘During the cordial talks at the Secretariat of State,’ reads a statement, “in expressing appreciation for the good bilateral relations that exist, there was an exchange of views on some issues of common interest, such as environmental protection and the fight against poverty. Particular attention was paid to the common commitment to promoting peace and security in the face of global challenges. Finally, recalling the history of the Church in the United Kingdom, there was a joint reflection on the need to continue promoting ecumenical dialogue.”
