Rome, 11 November (LaPresse) – “Seeking justice at all costs is instinctive. But there are pains that will never be alleviated, no matter what the punishment. To persist, as would be right, in demanding recognition of the persecution and cruelty would mean continuing to fight. But then, what for? There has already been a life sentence. So sometimes you have to be a little rational, to decide to use your energy for what really matters, and not for recognition that would only be an exercise in jurisprudence. Continuing with another two or three years of trial would not lead to anything concrete, and instead would be very difficult for me. I prefer to stay connected to things that create value’. These are the words of Gino Cecchettin, father of Giulia, who was killed on 11 November 2023 by her ex-boyfriend Filippo Turetta, who had already given up appealing against his life sentence. The Venice public prosecutor has also given up appealing against Turetta.
