Rome, 5 December (LaPresse) – Carabinieri from the Provincial Command of Rome, with the assistance of specialised units of the force, are executing an order for the preventive detention of 14 individuals accused, of various crimes, including attempted murder, illegal possession and carrying of firearms, extortion aggravated by mafia methods and (in some cases) with the aim of facilitating the activities of the mafia-type association known as the “Senese clan”, and attempted kidnapping aggravated by mafia methods. The measure stems from a broader investigation launched by the Carabinieri of the Rome Investigation Unit, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office, which gathered evidence on: -two attempted murders in Rome; -drug dealing; -an attempt to extort money from a jeweller in the capital, in which the Di Lauro clan, active in the province of Naples, also had an interest, by a Roman criminal who, as part of his criminal conduct, falsely claimed to be an emissary of the Senese family, thus provoking a violent reaction from both the Campania and Rome-based organisations, represented by Angelo Senese, brother of the more notorious Michele, resulting in a demand for “compensation”; -an attempted kidnapping.
