Milan, Jan. 1 (LaPresse) – “Today Niguarda Hospital prepared by activating the crisis unit with the medical management and the general management. We have made several intensive care beds and burns unit beds available, and we have called in additional staff who reported to the emergency department and the wards,” said Filippo Galbiati, head of emergency medicine and the emergency department at Niguarda Hospital in Milan, where three young people involved in the Crans-Montana tragedy in Switzerland have been admitted. He explained: “The initial assessment took place in our emergency department shock room, because it was important for anesthetists, burns specialists and surgeons to immediately identify the level of severity, both of the burns and of any trauma that could further compromise the situation. The assessment was therefore carried out as an emergency with dedicated teams for all three patients, who arrived within 20–30 minutes of each other. We have also activated a team of psychologists to support the families who are arriving at the hospital,” he concluded.
