Bergamo, 19 Jan. (LaPresse) – The final hearing in the trial of Moussa Sangare, an Italian citizen of Malian origin accused of the murder of Sharon Verzeni, who was stabbed to death on the night between 29 and 30 July 2024 in Terno d’Isola, in the province of Bergamo, could be postponed. The defendant faces life imprisonment. Sangare revoked the mandate of his previous lawyer, Giacomo Maj, who, during the hearing on 12 January, had requested acquittal on the grounds that he did not commit the crime, that the aggravating circumstances of premeditation, futile motives and diminished defence of the victim be dropped, and that general mitigating circumstances be recognised. Last week, during the defence’s closing arguments before the Bergamo Assize Court, presided over by Patrizia Ingrascì, Sangare asked to leave and be taken back to prison because, he said, “here I hear words against me, I have judged myself innocent”. The new lawyer may today request a postponement in order to study her client’s case file.
