Milan: Rogoredo shooting, officer to be investigated as a matter of course

Milan, 2 February (LaPresse) – The Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office will open an investigation in the next few hours, as a matter of course, into the police officer who on Sunday exchanged fire with Liu Wenham, the 30-year-old Chinese man who, after stealing a gun from a security guard in the Rogoredo area, opened fire on the police car that had intercepted him and who is now in critical condition at the Niguarda hospital in Milan. Prosecutor Simona Ferraiuolo has already registered the case against the foreign national for aggravated robbery and attempted murder. According to initial information gathered, which is still being examined by investigators, the man suffers from psychiatric disorders and attempts are being made to reconstruct his medical history. In the next few hours, the police officer is also expected to be entered in the register of suspects. Sources at the Public Prosecutor’s Office specify that this is a “necessary step” in order to carry out all the investigations with the guarantees provided for by law.
