Rome, 18 February (LaPresse) – Over one billion one hundred million euros, after the first one hundred million already allocated, for damage caused by the cyclone in Sicily, Sardinia and Calabria, and 150 million for the landslide in Niscemi. This was decided by the Council of Ministers, following the report by the Minister for Civil Protection, Nello Musumeci. The presidents of the three affected regions, as delegated commissioners, will arrange the necessary measures to support families and businesses affected by the violent storms and wave of bad weather in inland areas and to restore damaged infrastructure. For the Niscemi landslide, however, it was decided to take a different approach, with the appointment of a special commissioner, in the person of the head of the Civil Protection Department, Fabio Ciciliano, who will be responsible for providing financial assistance for new homes to families who have had to abandon their homes permanently, and for carrying out the necessary work on the landslide slope. The measure also provides for the suspension of tax and financial contribution deadlines, simplifications in environmental matters, and income support for private sector employees and self-employed workers. Support is also planned for exporting companies and productive activities in the tourism sector. For its part, Arera has ordered a six-month suspension of essential service bill payments for the affected population.
