Football: disturbances after Italy-Israel match in Udine, 12 reported to the police

Rome, 21 February (LaPresse) – The Udine State Police has reported twelve people believed to be responsible for the riots that took place in the city centre on 14 October, coinciding with the Italy-Israel football match. The investigation, conducted by DIGOS, reconstructed the incidents that occurred at the end of a march. The suspects – two Italian citizens and eleven of foreign origin, all legally residing in Italy – are accused of actively participating in the clashes, concealing their faces and throwing stones, bottles, road signs and other objects at the police. Two journalists and a dozen police officers involved in maintaining public order were injured in the clashes. One of the individuals reported is also believed to be responsible for throwing a stone that struck a Rainews journalist, causing a serious injury to her ankle and requiring her to be taken to hospital by ambulance. During the investigation, six house searches were also carried out, which led to the discovery and seizure of clothing used during the riots. A stick with nails fixed to the end was also seized, believed to have been intended to attack law enforcement officers. With regard to the events at the stadium during the match, the Chief of Police finally issued three Daspo orders against three Italian citizens who had attempted to climb over the barriers between the stands and the pitch with the intention of invading the field. The ban on attending sporting events is valid for two years.
