Transplanted child, lawyers for the surgeon under investigation: ‘We did everything we could to save Domenico’

Rome, 21 February (LaPresse) – ‘Faced with the tragedy of little Domenico and the pain of his family, we can only express our condolences, sympathy and deep respect for his mother and relatives.’ These are the words of lawyers Alfredo Sorge and Vittorio Manes, defence counsel for Dr Guido Oppido, who operated on little Domenico on 23 December at the Monaldi Hospital. ‘As defence lawyers,’ they continued, ‘we confidently await the reconstruction of events that the investigators and technical assessments will certainly provide. We are convinced, in any case, that our client did everything that was professionally necessary and everything that was humanly possible to save the little boy’s life, fighting against time and the minutes.’
