Milan, 20 March (LaPresse) – The Court of Milan has sentenced nine defendants to prison terms ranging from eight months to three years in the trial for culpable disaster centring on the fire at the Torre dei Moro, an 18-storey skyscraper that caught fire in Milan on 29 August 2021, turning into a ‘torch’ without causing any casualties. In particular, Teodoro Martinez Lopez, the legal representative of the Spanish company Alucoil, which manufactured the tower’s ‘sail-like’ cladding panels, was sentenced to three years. According to the prosecution, these panels caught fire rapidly because they were ‘highly flammable’. Three defendants were acquitted. The prosecution had sought 12 convictions of up to eight years.
