Naples: two women struck and killed by a car

Milan, 22 March (LaPresse) – On Sunday evening, two women died after being struck by a vehicle in Naples, on Corso Garibaldi, near Porta Nolana. According to initial findings by the local police, a 34-year-old Italian man, a resident of Naples, driving a Mercedes, is believed to have struck the two women as they were crossing the road. After the collision, the vehicle came to a halt against three cars parked along the road, causing extensive damage to the vehicles involved. The impact proved fatal for both women, whose identities are still being established by the authorities. They are believed to be two foreign nationals (presumably of Ukrainian or Georgian nationality). One of the two victims died instantly due to the severity of her injuries, whilst the second died shortly after arriving at hospital, despite attempts at resuscitation by the 118 emergency medical team. The driver of the Mercedes was immediately stopped by the police. As is standard procedure in cases of road homicide, the man was taken to a medical facility to undergo toxicology and breathalyser tests.
