Medicine, Lazio TAR rejects appeals against the “filter semester”

Rome, Mar. 25 (LaPresse) – The Lazio TAR has rejected appeals against the “filter semester” for admission to the Faculty of Medicine. According to LaPresse, the administrative court published a series of orders rejecting precautionary requests related to the appeals. According to the TAR, the new system does not present irregularities. Indeed, it cannot be considered “manifestly unreasonable to structure an access phase based on passing certain university exams with mere sufficiency,” the decision reads. The court recognized the principle that the exams of the filter semester are not simple admission tests but university exams that affect the student’s academic career. The TAR therefore did not suspend, as requested, the procedure of the so-called “filter semester,” including the rankings formed. The court did not accept the claims regarding alleged “social hardships” and the “restriction of the right to study,” noting instead the existence of support measures (“the provisions established by law”), such as scholarships and other benefits. The claim of violation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union was deemed “entirely generic,” lacking concrete and specific arguments.
