Bergamo: attempts to kidnap child in football school locker room, arrested

Rome, 31 March. (LaPresse) – The Carabinieri of the Osio Sotto station, in the province of Bergamo, intervened at the San Giovanni Bosco oratory following a call to 112. On site it was ascertained that a young 29-year-old Pakistani man, legal and without a criminal record, had entered the changing rooms adjacent to the football field where the children of the local team were changing after training, with the intention of picking up an 8-year-old boy of Moroccan origins. The child, not knowing the man, was protected by the coaches who sent the 29-year-old away. However, the man attempted to access the locker room again, but was stopped again by the coaches. When the Carabinieri arrived, the 29-year-old did not resist, apologizing without providing explanations for his action. Based on the testimonies and in the absence of plausible justifications, the Carabinieri arrested the young man on charges of attempted kidnapping of a minor. The public prosecutor ordered his transfer to the Bergamo prison, a measure later confirmed by the investigating judge with his precautionary custody in prison. Investigations continue to clarify the real reasons for the attempted kidnapping.
