Cardinal Ravasi: ‘Trump’s clumsy outburst about the Pope has actually united Catholics’

Rome, 15 April (LaPresse) – “It’s a question of style. Because the US president’s reaction was a bit clumsy, even from a stylistic point of view. I believe that the response given by Pope Leo, not so much on the substance of the matter, but generally on the theme of peace, the fight against war, and humanity, is such that his stature is so far superior in this case – and widely shared – that there is no need to add anything else.” So said Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi in reference to US President Trump’s remarks against Pope Leo. “I believe that in this case there has been a fairly unanimous reaction from the Catholic community,” he added, responding to a question about US Catholics, “and it has been an opportunity to unite the Catholic and religious world in general around figures who represent the values of humanism.”
