Rome, 6 May (LaPresse) – A dawn raid was carried out in the capital against a criminal organisation whose leaders are believed to have been in contact with circles linked to the Senese clan. The Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Rome, acting on behalf of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, have executed a pre-trial detention order against 18 suspects, 16 of whom have been remanded in custody and 2 placed under house arrest. The charges, on various counts, include drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, illegal possession of weapons, money laundering, attempted murder and grievous bodily harm. Several incidents are aggravated by the use of mafia methods, due to the intimidating tactics and the extensive control exercised over certain Roman drug-dealing hotspots. The operation is the result of an investigation, coordinated by the Rome District Anti-Mafia Directorate and launched in May 2025 by the Carabinieri Investigation Unit, which has made it possible to reconstruct the activities of an organisation dedicated to importing large quantities of drugs from abroad and their subsequent wholesale distribution in the capital. A well-structured system, capable of managing significant cash flows and using violence to intimidate anyone who stood in the way of its interests.
