Rome, 26 June (LaPresse) – The exceptional heatwave currently affecting Western Europe – with France and Spain at the forefront and temperatures well above the seasonal average – is beginning to take its toll on Italian A&E departments too. The rise in visits remains modest for the time being. “There is no cause for alarm: we can estimate the increase at 10–15 per cent in the A&E departments of major cities,” emphasises the Italian Society of Emergency and Urgent Medicine (Simeu). The National Health Service has not yet recorded a surge in admissions.
