Florence, 1 July (LaPresse) – The Prato Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the death of Dennis Antonio Rodriguez Matute, aged 26, originally from Honduras, who was found dead in his cell in the Tuscan town’s prison, where he had been detained since 12 May, when he was arrested on charges of complicity in attempted murder, alongside an Italian minor, as part of the investigation into the stabbing of Jacopo Cerbai, aged 23, a waiter at the ‘Casa Targi’ restaurant, who was seriously injured by a stab wound to the heart whilst trying to defend the restaurant’s owner during an attempted robbery in Piazza Mercatale. According to a statement by Public Prosecutor Luca Tescaroli, the case file opened alleges the offence of death resulting from another crime. The 26-year-old’s death may be linked to drug use. The prosecutor also revealed that just a few days ago, on Sunday 28 June, a block of hashish weighing approximately 100 grams and around 20 grams of cocaine were seized from an inmate in the fourth wing of Prato prison. The exact cause of the 26-year-old’s death is expected to be determined by the post-mortem examination.
